At times, however, it is necessary to seek the assistance of a healing professional as well as other community resources – like 12-Step support groups – to regain a sense of balance and control in our lives. Although we can never eliminate the potential for overusing, abusing or being addicted to certain substances or behaviors, we can minimize these circumstances and learn to recognize the underlying emotions and issues that move us in an automated way to these harmful patterns and behaviors.
